Portraits of ordinary women, which include the healing art that helped them through difficult changes in their lives, will open at Tangent Gallery, 2900 Franklin Blvd. (at 4th Ave.) in Sacramento, 2nd Saturday, June 12th 2010 from 6 to 10 pm. The gallery is also open on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm or by appointment (firstname.lastname@example.org). The women are all students at the Women’s Wisdom Art Project, a program of Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Sacramento digital artist and photographer Ann Tracy recruited Woodland photographer George Streng to work on this project with her. Tracy and Streng wanted to go beyond the standard editorial portrait to create a post modern type of portraiture that includes art work created by the women to celebrate their journeys to increase their self-esteem and give them a sense of pride in themselves and what they have accomplished.
